What Kind of Goals Keep Us Moving Forward?
Naturally, the main reason why we do something and keep doing it because we expect a goal at the end. A goal which represents all our achievements and the fruition of our ambition, hard work, and sacrifices. All of us have this, it can be a short-term one. Like making our budget last throughout the week Long term ones such as studying and practicing hard to become a master craftsman on your desired expertise. All goals come in different sizes and difficulties. Staying motivated while working on it is the key to successfully reaching it.
All of us have different reasons and put all of our efforts to it. Businessmen are striving and finding new ways to make their companies bigger and better. Athletes train night and day to keep their bodies in top physical shape and skills honed to near perfection. Chefs are researching and finding new ways to come up with a dish that will become their signature. In essence, all goals are rewards given to the dedicated and hardworking person who never loses his path from reaching his life’s success.
There are a lot of kinds of goals, and we can categorize them primarily in these face ways.
Prize or Reward As A Goal
The most common goal is aiming for some kind of a prize or a reward in the end. Having one’s self and mind fixated to a prize will significantly increase their motivation in reaching it. Sometimes, the notion of receiving a prize at the end of the ordeal makes one never lose focus and become more dedicated, thus seeing it till the end.
For example. A gladiator will fight ferociously for his life in order to gain his freedom. A worker will work diligently for that quarterly bonus. A kid will behave because of the promise that his parents will buy him ice cream if he does. And a contestant in a game show will do his best in order to win a brand new car.
Some people will not just aim for a material reward. Sometimes what they long for is the praise and respect of others. As human beings are social creatures, we all want to be acknowledged by our peers. Being prestigious will also lead to other higher goals like fame, better opportunities, better connections, and so on.
Being Held As The Best
Being held at the best among others gives one that fulfillment for themselves. As well as the prizes that go with it. Fame and prestige also stem from this. An example of this is an athlete will drive himself to the limit and beat other opponents to become heralded as the best on his sport. And also an employee will work harder to become the employee of the month.
Avoidance Of Failure
Fear of failure is also a strong driving factor which drives one to be successful. It can bring out the best of us. But sometimes it generates some negative things to people. Failure either builds your motivation or breaks it down altogether. Avoiding something too is a strong driver for motivation.
For example, a father will work harder due to the fear of not having enough money for their monthly bills. A camper will take watch all night because of the fear that something bad will happen to him and his pals. Thus keeping them safe. And lastly, a student will study harder, for the fear of failing his class.
For Self-fulfillment and Satisfaction
Some people will just simply do a particular task because they just wanted to. Completing a task will make them feel better and motivated for themselves without receiving any material rewards or recognition. Sometimes, what drives people to achieve this is their passion towards it and the mere completion of the task is their goal itself. These people are the ones who want to challenge themselves to become a better person than they’ll ever be deep within them.
These are just some of the things that are commonly used as a basis of everybody’s goal. Now, if you are not sure yet of what goal you want to pursue and achieve, you can use these 5 as a basis. Who knows, maybe through these, you can find your ultimate goal in life that you have been looking for so long.
